The National Farmers Day (or) Kisan Diwas is observed on December 23 every year to commemorate the memory of Chaudhary Charan Singh, the 5th Prime Minister of India from 28th July 1979 until 14th January 1980.
He served as the Deputy Prime Minister during Morarji Desai rule.
His association with the causes dear to farming communities in the North caused his memorial in New Delhi to be named “Kishan Ghat”.
